Migrate from Mailchimp

Move from Mailchimp to Rasket.

Paste a Mailchimp API key, see exactly what we found and what it costs, and import. Audiences, tags, segments, templates, drafts and reports come over in a few minutes, and nothing is sent to anyone.

Three steps

Paste a key, review, import.

  1. 1

    Paste a Mailchimp API key

In Rasket, open Audience → Import & migrate and pick Mailchimp. Make a key in Mailchimp under Account & billing → Extras → API keys and paste it.

  2. 2

    Review what we found

Every audience, tag, segment, template, draft and report, counted, with what it costs on your plan. Everything is ticked; untick what you don't want.

  3. 3

    Import

A few minutes for most accounts. Safe to close the tab. You get a report and a warm-up plan by email.

Mailchimp → Rasket

What comes over, exactly.

What comes over from Mailchimp, and what it becomes in Rasket
In MailchimpIn RasketNotes
Audience members and merge fieldsContacts and propertiesFirst and last name become the contact's name; other merge fields become properties. Dates come over as YYYY-MM-DD, and an address also in its parts.
Unsubscribed, cleaned and abuse-reported membersSuppressedAlways. They never get mail and never count on your plan.
AudiencesTopicsOne topic per audience. An unsubscribe from any audience unsubscribes the contact.
GroupsTopicsEach group becomes a topic with its subscribed members.
TagsA tags property and a segmentEach tag keeps its members.
Saved segmentsSegmentsA live rule where every condition has an exact match in Rasket; otherwise a fixed list, marked as one.
TemplatesTemplatesMailchimp's API gives a template's editable sections, not its design, so they arrive as plain HTML.
Draft, paused and scheduled campaignsDraft campaignsWith their full HTML and merge tags converted. Nothing is sent or scheduled for you.
Classic automationsPaused automationsA welcome series on an audience comes over with its waits and emails. Anything else is listed step by step for you to rebuild.
Member activityWarm-up planEach member's latest open or click decides who goes first.
Campaign reportsRead-only archiveSends, opens and clicks for each past campaign, and the email that went out. Pictures are copied into Rasket.

Doesn’t come over: Customer Journeys, automations started by anything but joining an audience, sign-up forms, landing pages and websites, and the drag-and-drop layout of templates. The report names each form, landing page and automation to rebuild; the HTML your campaigns used is already here.

Before you start

Safe by default. We only read, and we never send.

Your key

Mailchimp has no read-only key, so the key you paste can do anything in your account. We only read with it. It is stored encrypted while the migration runs and deleted when it finishes or you cancel. We never show it or write it to a log. Delete it in Mailchimp when you're done.

Warm-up

Nothing is sent when you migrate. The report that arrives by email has a warm-up plan: your recently engaged contacts first, the rest over the following weeks, so mailbox providers get to know your new sending domain.

What it costs

Every plan includes marketing contacts: 400 on Free, 2,500 on Pro and 11,000 on Scale. Unsubscribed, bounced and complained contacts never count. You see the number and the price before anything is imported.

Questions

Straight answers.

Do I need a Mailchimp API key?

Yes, for now. Make one under Account & billing → Extras → API keys, paste it, and delete it in Mailchimp once the import is done.

Can I keep using Mailchimp while I decide?

Yes. We only read, so nothing changes in Mailchimp. Run the migration again later and contacts are updated, not duplicated.

What about my Mailchimp automations?

A welcome series comes over as a paused automation, with its waits and emails. Others are listed in the report step by step, with a button that starts the rebuild for you. Customer Journeys don't come over.

Will my contacts get an email when I move?

No. A migration only brings data in. Drafts stay drafts, and nobody is emailed until you send a campaign yourself.

How much will it cost?

Every plan includes marketing contacts: 400 on Free, 2,500 on Pro and 11,000 on Scale. Unsubscribed, bounced and complained contacts never count. You see the number and the price before anything is imported.
